Black Jack
Objective
Obtain a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over 21.
- Aces are counted as either 1 or 11.
- K, Q, J, and 10s are all valued at 10.
A hand value of 21 dealt on the first 2 cards is counted as a “Black Jack” and pays 1.5 times your initial bet. Basic game progression After the initial bet has been placed, the player and dealer are each dealt 2 cards. Player cards are dealt face up, while one of the dealer’s cards is shown. The player now has access to the following options: Hit Draw another card. A player may hit as many times as they like while their hand value is below 21. Stand Stop at the current total. The dealer will continue to take cards ("hit") until their total is 17 or greater. An Ace in the dealer's hand is always counted as 11 unless doing so brings his hand value over 21.
Additional options
In certain conditions, a player may be presented with additional options:
- Double (Doubling Down) - This is only offered on a two card hand with a value of 9 - 11 (before another card has been drawn). Doubling down allows you to double your bet but you can receive only one additional card to the hand.
- Split - When you are dealt a matching pair of cards (numerical value, example: 6 and 6 or Queen and King) you have the option of splitting the hand into two separate hands, then playing each hand independently. You are allowed to split pairs 2 times during a game, except that you can not re-split on split Aces. To split, you will also need sufficient funds to place a separate bet on each new hand, each equivalent in value to your initial bet.
- Insurance – If the dealer’s up card is an Ace, you will be offered the option to insure yourself in case the dealer is dealt a Blackjack, at the cost of half your initial bet. An insurance bet carries a payout rate of 2:1, as an example, if you placed a $20 bet the cost of insurance is $10, if the Dealer has a Blackjack, you win $20 from your insurance but you lose your initial bet, so you break even. If the Dealer doesn't have a Blackjack, then you lose your insurance bet of $10 and continue to play your hand.
